None of them actually mention anything about me or Malta. Just (rightly) that insurance here is a ripoff.

They were going in that direction, the OP was asking about Canada, not the UK, or whatever you decided to stop worrying about, then you moved on to Malta pretty quickly...
I'm honestly not paying that much attention to your individual posts, it just amuses me, bearing in mind other threads, that's all

It amuses me too how much I can go off on a tangent on here, especially when having a "bad day" outside the online world
I do admit it.

Insurance is currently $3400 for our 2013 Hyundai Genesis with 0% discount as ICBC rejected all of my UK insurance due to very minor technicalities on the letters (some reasons being wrong though!!!), despite the broker checking them thoroughly and thought they were about the best she had seen. Currently working on that.
$2100 for our 1997 Land Rover Defender with 20% discount. Works out rather a lot per trip!
Ouch.
My 'company car' - a 2013 Nissan Frontier is on their Fleet policy and only costs them $500.
Something wrong somewhere!
ICBC have staff who's main job is to find reasons NOT to accept foreign insurance letters, rather than the other way round...

At what point in my post did I state that I was getting a credit card to get discount on my car insurance. I am aware I can only get my insurance premium down if I have no accidents/incidents and do not claim on my insurance.
If you had bothered to read the posts above it was related to credit ratings for new immigrants to the country.

becki, if you'd like to nurture & grow your credit score, the well-respected late FatBrit's Guide to Credit and Finance explains it all. It's US-centric but I find that over 90% applies to Canada too.

For frightening insurance prices look at the Yukon, NWT, or Fort McMoney, $10,000/yr isn't unusual at all.

The letters and details are all compliant.
Some of ICBC's 'reasons' are beyond stupid, especially as my wife had TWO identical letters accepted.
For example:
1) 'Endsleigh Insurance is a trading name of Zurich Insurance' means to ICBC that Endsleigh is a Broker and not an Insurance Company.
2)'Elephant.co.uk Insurance is a trading name of Admiral Insurance' means to ICBC that Elephant is a Broker and not an Insurance Company.
3) A letter with my firstname and surname was rejected because it didn't have my middle initial, despite the fact that they quoted my DOB and address and the vehicle registration matched other letters.
They also took 3 months to reject them...
Like I said, ICBC quite obviously have staff who's job it is to reject those letters, not try and accept them. Either that or they employ thick people.

Exactly. What more could you expect from a government agency, though. (The fact that there is a total forced monopoly on insurance in BC by ICBC really irks me)

The fact that car insurance in Ontario costs ten times what it does in Quebec irks me...
