Default Carry on baggage help (electrical items)

I have been on the website for Zoom and also phoned (got an automated person) to find out about carry on baggage.

The website says UK to Canada-All laptops and large electrical items e.g. hairdryers must be removed from hand-luggage before going through x-ray.

And the automated phone messge says passengers are allowed one electrical item e.g. laptop

So I really want to know if I can take on as hand luggage

-Mobile
-Video Camcorder
-Digital Camera
-Ipod
-(and maybe) Nintendo DS (I think not as it has wi-fi capabilities)

I would love to know as I feel they are a wee bit vague, the Canada to UK hand luggage bit contains more information.

Any help appreciated

Emma

I don't think that you'll have a problem, but all your electrical stuff will have to go through the x-ray machine. Don't worry about the DS as they haven't a clue whether or not it has wi-fi or not.

If you want to be really sure, try and call the customs people at the airport you're flying from as they'll be the people checking your baggage.

I routinely fly with a laptop, palm & ipod. I have to take the laptop out of it's bag, but the ipod & palm stay in, no probs.

I think that they mean that electrical items (that you are taking on as hand luggage) will need to be removed from your bag (whilst it goes through the x-ray machine) and they will be checked individually.

When we went with Zoom we took cameras and 2 x DS with us as carry on. The x-ray machine guy told us to take them out of bags and put them into basket, and they were then physically checked by them

Hi Emma

When we flew to Halifax last month I hand carried my digital camera (okay to be x-rayed) and mobile phone. I am sure that laptops are okay.

I hope you have a fab time when you fly out tomorrow. Send my regards to New Glasgow and tell them that the Whyte family will be heading out soon!
