Just a question! Why would anybody want to bring a car from the UK to Canada in the first place? We already have cars here with the steering wheel on the correct (convenient) side for driving on the Canadian side of the road! Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a car here?

The steering wheel is on the correct side of the car for Canada thank you.

It may well be cheaper, but I don't necessarily want the same piece of junk made by Ford/GMC/Chevrolet that everyone seems to drive.

Sixteen years old and still more economic on fuel than your latest vehicles....(and will last longer).

I just wondered. I thought you could buy Land Rovers over here -- or perhaps it's just Range Rovers!

My son bought an Audi from the States and it was a bit of a hassle to get it safetied. I just thought it would be easier to get one that didn't need any of that stuff.

We were the family from Wales - Moving Partnership was horrendous (catalogue of problems which we are still trying to work through 5 months later) 40' container cost £7500 approx. Also tried to ship our cars but failed to prove that they conformed to USA/Canadian standards so a no go.

...and where do you think they came from originally (apart from any super-expensive NAS models which might be listed)?

Only 50 were ever sold new in Canada and approx 500 in USA.

RICH was just pointing out that you can BUY the cars here. I would point out that "everyone" does not drive N. American cars. Nobody in my family drives a N. American car and we are certainly not the only ones. I was just asking if it was worth the hassle and expense! My son was driving a borrowed car for over a month while he had the safety inspections and work done to comply with Canadian requirements.

There wasn't any hassle (just the basic BC safety inspection required, which will be done by a local Land Rover specialist) and the additional cost for shipping was only £1000 on top of our belongings.

Well worth the effort.

Where they came from is irrelevant. You stated that they can't be purchased here, which is obviously not the case.

As in new, or less than 15 years old.

(Interesting one on that Autotrader link - the only place that 2012 one will be going is back on a ship, if it is even in Canada to start with...)

Enough semantics.

Some cars are just cheaper to buy in the UK (even older Mustangs etc) and ship them over and some cars are cheaper to buy here and ship them over to the UK (we've just sent three for a friend) and some people have emotional attachments and it's not 'just a car' and some people just want something different. Just as some people bring all their belongings and others just bring sentimental stuff and clothes, it's just a personal choice thing.

If they're new or under 15 years old you can't import them anyway, so I don't understand the point you're trying to make.
