Default Car Insurance question

It's fair to say that life coulkd be just a little sweeter at the moment. This combined with a moment of complete and absolute stupidity and even the sun coming out isn't helping

I lost my licence last month on a DUI and I'm just trying to figure out 'the plan' and what I need to do in the future. Here in saskatchewan after three months you can have a 'breathometer' fitted and can be driving again for the duration of the years ban....cool idea and it gets my car back. I was wondering if you could take such a fitted car over the US border...not a pressing question but I was just curious .

The real question is this....what happens in Alberta and BC with regards insurance and DUI's? In the UK you'd get hammered...does the same happen there? I'm not ready to call any insurance co's coz its a way off and I haven't firmed up any plans but if they do the same I might have to re-think them. Anyone got any knowledge on this?

Please, please don't lecture me....I've been doing a good job of that on my own

I don't know anything about DUIs, those cars, or American law... but assuming you were arrested and you travel on a British passport, you realise you won't be able to use the visa waiver scheme to enter the US anymore, you'll need a full visa.

I can't say this clearly enough....I just needed some info/ help. I don't need a lecture and I don't know exactly what the hell they call my conviction in canada (nor do I care at this point) I am well aware that I have totally and utterley screwed up the rest of my life and I'm more than aware that there are travel restrictions. I feel ashamed enough given a moment of total and utter moronicness has totally F****d up my life and I did say I don't need to be beaten up on this in here...I'm doing a good enough job of that on my own, thanks.

Biink....'those cars'???.... I assume you're referring to the 'breathometer'(?) which can be installed into any car you own. I've just seem that this is available in both BC and Alberta and probably I assume. I'm very well aware of the visa problem and am looking at that as a seperate point.

Sorry if I come across as touchy but at this time my life is a complete cesspit of nastyness and guess what....I'm touchy and I just hoped for some sensible advice. Guess I was wrong, sorry.

No one is trying to make you feel any worse. As you say, you are doing that yourself. The main problem is that unless someone has been in a similar situation to you, then they probably wouldn't know the answers to any of your questions (like me).

The only suggestions I can give where you may find some relevant information is try www.icbc.com. You could also try posting under Canada in the Immigration section. The immigration consultants on there will have studied broader based law before they specialised. If they can't answer your questions, I'm sure that they can point you in the right direction.

Sorry, what did you take from my post that wasn't "sensible advice"? I took the fact that you didn't know what kind of car you could cross the border in to be a good indication that you wouldn't know about being ineligible for the visa waiver program, pardon me for thinking ahead.

"Those cars" - I've never heard of cars with breath o meters, I have no idea what they are, how they work, what to call them... so yes, "those cars" is what I meant.

I realise it can be an emotive subject, but I gave a completely impartial response and highlighted an area of potential difficulty you hadn't mentioned in your post...and yet you're seeing some kind of lecturing in my post that isn't there. I'm really sorry you see it like that

While you may not care right now, it will help you to know what restrictions you will face in the future due to it. This is the equivalent of a felony conviction in the US as they take DUI much more seriously up here than in the US.
