Default car insurance alberta

Hi, we are shortly moving to Alberta Canada. Can anyone tell us what we might pay for car insurance. I realise it will depend on what car we buy but we are looking for anything from car to 4x4. Many thanks. Polly.

Sorry, we should have been more specific...a year! That would have been horrific otherwise wouldn't it!

Insurance has so many variable that these numbers are almost meaningless.

How old are the vehicles, how much liability insurance do you have, do you carry collision insurance if so what is the deductible?

Do you have a clean driving record not only no claims but no tickets? One can usually assume this last one is true for UK immigrants but not always.

Don't really mean to rain on anyone's parade but you're not really going to get any idea as to what you will be charged until you buy a vehicle and start checking around.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

We got the sense that the OP sort of knew all that from the way they phrased their post.

However, we agree there is limited value without more context, so for the OP, our vehicles were new, we have clean licences and varying levels of driving experience which is keeping the Taurus premium higher than it might otherwise be. The policies are otherwise fairly standard bar a small increment in premium on the Taurus for use for a commute to work.

Still more context may be required.

How much liability insurance do people carry? Is it $500,000, 1 Million, 2 Million?

Do they have collision insurance? If yes what is the deductible $100, $200, $500, or $1,000, more?

Is there glass coverage?

Are there going to be any young drivers?

As you have stated is the vehicle going to driven to and from work?

They all make a difference to the premiums.

Can't agree more with the others its not that simple getting a quote until you get here. Please please make sure you bring a copy of your driving insurance and history an certain companies will honour your past driving. Here is one we went with: http://www.johnson.ca/

I'm with ING, I get Aeroplan miles and they take into account your UK driving & NCB in to account.

Currently paying $126/month (over 10 months) for a 05 Explorer and my contents insurance.

Finding an insurer who will honour your UK no claims will have a big impact on your insurance costs.

Economical Mutual accepted our UK NCB but some of the quotes we got from insurers that didn't were laughable $$$$$
