Default Car Insurance

Hi all,

does anyone know how car insurance fairs in Calgary... is it a similar system to the uk. What do companies take into consideration ?

Is it worth bringing proof of my no claims discount with me?

Thank you as always

To further the no claims proof.

Some have said to make sure it is a letter from the insurance company, not just an agent.

Cheers

We also got DVLA print-outs showing our Uk licence History before we came here. It shows that we have not had any points etc. Just trying to sort out insurance at the moment. Very expensive in Ontario, original quote was $5000pa but may have found somewhere that will do it for $2300, still expensive though!

If you can bring out your no claims discount with you, if not you can get it faxed to your agent over here.

If you are with an online/phone (Directline etc) insurance company make sure you can contact them, free phone numbers cannot be reach from aborad.

Insurance is expensive.

I can recommend a good broker in Calgary who managed to get me $1400 per year for my Subaru Outback. This make sound horrifying compared to UK rates where I was paying half that for 300 HP of mid life crisis, but compared to the other quotes that I received, this was heaven. I had one minor "oops" on my driving history.

Basically you need as much proof as possible of no claims history and and photocopy of you indiscressions from you driving license. When you exchnage you license thjey will take your UK one away from you, so make sure you get a copy first. The mistory is very, very important. Why wife is paying about $1000 for her PathFinder, but for the first few months before we got all the proof of her driving history the monthly payments were hiked to be based upon $2500.

Hi,
we're moving to Oakville next week and have had similar horror quotes. Are you okay to let me know the details of the insurer who may be able to offer you the lower quote?
Thanks

Hi... Thanks that would be brill..

I really hope all goes well with your move. Dont know what Oakville is like, or indeed specifically where it is, but is sounds like a nice place.

Good luck with the move, think positive.

Well we have just handed in the application form to belairdirect.com, they said it will take 15 days to process the application and check all the details. The online quote was around the $2300 mark which was the cheapest we were able to get. Whether the actual prices comes back as per the quote remains to be seen. I have no doubt that there will probably by taxes etc to add on to that.

On the application form it did ask for details of your driving experience outside Canada.

I'll let you know more when I here from them

Mark
