You too. Hate to be so nasty..but I suggest you research the issue...like maybe by calling the PST and GST offices. Then you can post and tell me that you were wrong and I am right. It's not as if I don't know that you can find the answer,,,and it will be what I have stated.

listen...stuff that....the bill of sale charges only the tax on the difference. Every client knows it. If the new car is $20,000 and the trade is $10,000, you pay 14% of $10,000 not of $20,000. For the mathematically challenged, that is $1,400 tax, not $2,800. Now take your anti car people crap and stick it where your head is. I get very tired of people using that old brush to tar people like me with.

Mine will be - I am just headed to bed (GMT -8). Seriously, there are taxes on taxes here. Two levels of income tax, plus PST and GST (VAT), stealth taxes and and "administration" charges for, well, breathing these days.

Well, let's just say that his post struck me as being the buildup to another attack against someone in my line of work. I am fully aware that the business is filled with some undesirable characters, but I'm not one of them and do not want to be included in that tarring. And the post did specifically ask "when was the last time that YOU..." so it was not directed in a general manner, but pin pointed at me.

O.K., so does it change anything if you buy a car in Alberta, but register it in another province - i.e. would you be charged the tax as if it was purchased in the area you live, although you bought it in a lower tax area?
However, if you're leasing a vehicle and move from AB to another province you do have to pay the Provincial tax.

If someone buys a car in Alberta I would think that, in order to get an ownership or title they will have to prove they paid any applicable sales tax. I don;t know if there is sales tax in Alberta or how they deal with private sales as regards sales tax. If there is a sales tax and a purchase is made at a dealer, it will be collected then, along with GST. If you are, for example, bringing a vehicle to Ontario that is registered and plated in Alberta, you can change it to Ontario registration without any tax being charged. If you bring an unregistered or unplated vehicle, be prepared to be charged sales tax. Can't speak for other Provinces.

If you live in Alberta and own vehicles and are then transferred or you move to another province you are not charged PST when you register those vehicles in your new province of residence.
