Hi, wondered if anyone can give advice about renting a car for two months on Vancouver Island or from Vancouver airport? On previous holidays, no problem, I've just searched the web and found a car for two to three weeks. This time we are going to be on the Island for about 8 weeks. When I looked up the price for car hire it was very expensive and I ask if there is another way of hiring? If I was going to be there for 6 months I would see if it was possible to lease, but for two? Is there a cheaper way than just multiplying amount by 8?

I am not sure what price you are getting, for a compact to a standard size the price varies from company to company.
This company have them (2 month rental) for between $2100-$2500. http://www.carrentalexpress.com/revo...icle_and_rates
Budget for the same period was $1682 to $1914
Enterprise quotes are from $1822 to $2265
Budget seem to be the cheapest, but I am sure others in the know will let you know cheaper ones!

Beats Budget at first glance but read the small print first.

Thanks for the comments. I could, maybe, see the point of buying/selling if I was going to be in the country for six months, but I think that for two months, I would spend time finding the vehicle and then the last week trying to sell it. Also I was thinking that tax and insurance etc. would be difficult. I will keep on checking various sites and see if I can come up with a deal. Some of the prices you have sent me are worth a look at, thanks. I guess that "rent-a-wreck" maybe have outlets in Canada and are not just in US.

I phoned dealers the day after we arrived in canada, one of the local dealers did us a monthly deal, swapped a toyota corolla picked up at the airport for a dodge nitro from the dealer for about half the avis rate. You might be able to locate dealers on the internet and email before you go

I had a quote from rentawreck (toronto) for 550 p/m + tax and insurance. Full insurance would be an extra 170 p/m. That's for a small car (focus or similar)
