Rental companies only provide the minimum required by law and sell top up insurance. In most provinces the minimum required by law is $200,000. You can buy top up insurance for $1- 5m. Car rental companies carry the minimum required by law, mostly $200k (500k in NS), nowhere near enough today.
My confusion. It must be Canadian car hire booked through a .co.uk website using a UK Driving Licence and home address that gets you full 3rd party cover

do read the fine print on the annual policy. I had one of those, great for holidays but I phoned them when we were in the process of moving here. They advised me that once we landed in Canada and were deemed Canadian landed/residents the policy was no longer valid.
I have no idea on the legalities on being a temp worker and how that works, but wanted to pass on our experience.

Just excess waiver and collision damage waiver. I don't think it tops up the third party liability.
I checked the policy wording, headingwest. It says you need to be living in an EEA state on the day you buy the policy - I will be buying it before I leave.
