Car Hire
Does anybody have any recommendations for reasonable car hire from downtown Vancouver?? Can't find any old threads that help
Is it cheaper to sort out in the UK or Canada??
Many Thanks

Re: Car Hire
Last year we booked it from the UK, through http://www.ebookers.com and paid around £250 for 12 days for a family sized car from Avis.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, will check them out
Cheapest I have found is £324 for 17 days hire with travelsupermarket.com (easycar)
I'm a sucker for a bargain so thought I would ask here before booking anything!

Forgot to say, the pick up location was at Hotel Vancouver which is really handy if you are staying in downtown Vancouver.

Re: Car Hire
Best price we found was Enterprise through TravelSupermarket last October.
We hired through Enterprise as CDW (Collision waver damage) was included in the price. Picked up from the airport.

Re: Car Hire
As a rule it is cheaper to rent locally. They charge a premium for Airport pickups, although you can often drop at the airport. Ask first in case they want to charge extra.
The rate you get often varies according to availability and any promotions, the cheapest one month may not be the next. Some offer unlimited mileage, others don't, some have restrictions on taking the car out of province. We rent fairly often, using Budget & on occasion Avis.
Also check what additional insurance you need. Rental cars in BC only come with the minimum of $200,000 liability, unless you have a credit card that offers rental car insurance, or can extend your current car policy you may want to check the cost of additional insurance, such as collision, extra liability etc. We get it included with our ICBC policy as well as with our Visa card, so there is no extra cost for us, however some companies charge an arm and a leg for this.
Do a web search for Vancouver car rental and then get some quotes. You can book direct with most companies.

Thanks for all the info folks
I have done a local search, Anyone heard of Discount car and truck rentals based at 180 West Georgia St? The price is good at £264 but there is no mention of what cover is included
Might have to drop them a line

Re: Car Hire
Discount is a multi-national operation, I believe it's part of Daimler-Chrysler (or whatever they're now called). I've rented from them several times without problems but always pay with Amex and decline the coverage as the card provides it. (I easily get back the annual fee for the card just by not paying for this insurance).

Re: Car Hire
Credit card insurance if you have it usually only covers collision damage waiver, not additional liability. We always carry $5m liability with our own vehicles and this carries over to rentals.
