Default Candles - are they allowed!!???!

Been looking though the posts and cannot work out if candles are allowed to be imported or not ... does anyone know for sure what the actual rules are on them. Am happy to donate to friends but would like to bring them if there is no restriction!

Why would you not be allowed to bring candles?

I suspect we had some packed - not so much intentionally, but simply because I hadn't thought about it and they were probably still stuck on the candle holders when the packing crew came in and blitzed the house. (Just as a friend of mine had some pot pourri turn up here which she had also forgotten to throw out before the packers came in - it turned up still in the bowl, the right way up and still smelling!!)

Anyway, there is an Ikea in Calgary and candles are very cheap there........!

If you're taking candles make sure they're NA compatible. Otherwise you'll need to buy a wick converter.

I'm soooooooooo confused. Why would you not be able to bring candles?

Good job on the heads up about the wick converter though - they are in the sale at CT at the momento.

that tickled my funny bone

I had no clue that candles could be 'verboten'. I know we brought all ours with us with no problemo, even listed them on our 'good to follow' with no hassle (not that anyone perused the lists in any great detail'. Maybe it's something to do with the fact that bees or other animals may be involved somewhere along the line....
I know an acute paranoia befalls us when we're packing up to move here but I'd pack 'em anyway.

We were not allowed to bring any candles for reasons of safety. Heat and containers were cited - anyway you can buy them here!

That seems quite mental to me. How is a candle any less safe than say your sofa or pile of sheets etc?

Isn't it funny what people find to worry about! Have to say we never thought of THAT one!

(did you notarise your dog yet? .... how about fumigating your documents and microchipping your mattresses?... )

...... only teasing, don't mind me; I know, emigrating is a very stressful business!

You do have to put them out before packing them.
