Question Canadian Uni Fees for Immigrants

HI!
If we move to Canada two years before our son begins university, will he be eligible to be treated as a home student in terms of fees? I'm not sure how long/when we would get PR. My understanding is that he will have lost "home student" status in the Uk by then and we don't want to fall between two stools having to pay international fees both in Canada AND in the UK. Does anyone understand the rules on this please?
Thanks so much.

If he's got PR, he won't have to pay international tuition fees, if he's there on another status i.e. under your TWP, then he'll be treated as an international student. So essentially, you need to apply for PR asap. What route are you applying under? Hopefully it's EE and then you'll have it fairly quickly.

That's the way it usually goes anyway, although you may need to check with the individual uni just to be sure their policy isn't any different.

So kind to reply so quickly - thank you!
I'm a bit green about all this so not sure - do under-18's automatically get PR if their parents have it?

Yep. Dependent children are those aged under 22, who haven't lost dependency (i.e. aren't married and living away from home). More info on the CIC website - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...814.1504684497

Some universities in Ontario charge domestic fees to children of certain temporary foreign workers. The University of Toronto is one that does the last time I looked.

It’s treated differently to the UK - dependent on status rather than length of living in the country, although as others have stated, there are always exceptions to the rule. Certainly worth getting PR ASAP for that reason alone! Students with either PR or citizen status are generally regarded as eligible for home fees.

Those dependents whose parents are on employer specific Work Permits may be eligible for domestic fees at some Ontario universities e.g.
