Re: Canadian TV Sets
It's more complicated than it appears this stuff - all very hit and miss.
My standard def UK Philips dvd player would play NTSC and PAL discs on my no-name LCD TV when set to NTSC output (obviously). It then packed in so I got an upscaling Oppo, region hacked it and it played everything beautifully - although I kept having to switch between NTSC and PAL output - even though my TV is NTSC. So...when we bought our house and bought a big eff-off Sony rear projection TV for the rec room, I thought everything would work out wonderfully... ...wrong. If I play PAL discs through the Sony it tells me that the format is unsupported and offsets the picture to the left. If I switch the DVD output to NTSC, the picture "flickers" every now and then - just enough to be irritating. The only way I can watch PAL dvds on it is by having the player on standard def (576p/i) which the TV initially kicks up a stink about, but plays them fine. But after having watched upscaled PAL dvds on the LCD, I feel a bit disappointed. :( |

Re: Canadian TV Sets
So does this mean there is no point in taking British TV's to Canada unless using for DVD, Playstation or Monitor on PC
Canadian TV wont work on UK TV's or can you purchase some kind of convertor ? Thanks for the excellent advice |

Oi you cheeky blighter, you sound just like my wife. I'll have you know today I've chased solicitors, had the car MOT'd, spoken with estate agents, posted more stuff sold on Ebay, taken stuff to the tip, looking at bed furniture stores websites in Toronto, and surfed the web.
