So a Canadian Senator (not a hockey player) is calling for the introduction of a trusted traveller type pass for Canadians to get through airline security checks somewhat easier as they will have been screened/vetted for this privilege.
Some will point out that NEXUS allows us to do this but she also points out this is a joint US/Canadian programme and that Canadians or whoever eligible for NEXUS has to usually travel and be interviewed by USCBP officers at a US location unless they live close to an Airport with US Pre Clearance. Current fee is $120 USD.
Having been an ex NEXUS member myself when it was $50 Canadian I found it OK but certainly did not use it as much as some would do.
I remember flying domestically with a NEXUS card which is supposed to give you access to a priority security line for CATSA checks however often there is insufficient staff to open and man this priority line so no benefit gained.
So good proposal or not. How much would you be willing to pay for this service if not a NEXUS member?

Hmmm, there's nothing in that CBC article to indicate that such a traveller would be able to quickly pass thru US immigration without a Gestapo-like interrogation so it doesn't seem anywhere near as useful as NEXUS.
In my reading of the article, it seems the only possible advantage would be skipping security queues for domestic flights...in which case, no, I wouldn't pay for it. (I don't fly/fly domestic very often, and when I last flew (out of YVR) I was through security in under 3 minutes - literally!
