Buy your mattress from IKEA. They have a try it out for 90 days and exchange it if you don't like it policy. We spent hours in the N. York IKEA in the first few weeks (sadly).

Do you have The Brick over in Toronto? We bought nearly all our new stuff from there - bed, bedroom furniture, sofas, rugs, TVs, DVD players, microwaves, washer, dryer etc. Because we bought so much stuff there, they gave us a really good discount.

Bed Bath & Beyond sorted most of our needs. Kettles, toasters, microwaves, soft stuff the missus likes. All that!

I find Bed, Math and Beyond pretty pricey - you can often buy the same stuff in Walmart for far less.

Sears customer service is non-existent. When we came over we wanted to buy a whole kitchen full of appliances plus a washer and drier but could only buy what was in their catalogue IF it was available and someone wanted to serve us! The Brick however offered dicounts and could get us anything that we wanted and could show them online. Think we got 20% off and free delivery for a large order.

Bedding is definitely a problem, haven't bought any recently but if I did I'd wait until I went to the US and get it in Target or JCPenney.

Good luck!

Yes, The Brick is in Toronto.

I personally love HomeSense for things around the house, can get some good deals in there. Benix is another good place to get housewares.

HomeSense = Winners. Same outfit as TK Maxx in the UK.

Both are good places to drop into. My favourite suit came from Winners. Merino wool. It was lonely - the only one. It also fits me like a glove. As my darling wife likes to say: 'I couldn't leave it there, not at that price'.

Winners is more for clothing, but has some, not alot, of housewares. I personally don't like Winners. But I know LOTS of people who love the place.

Where the cast of Eldorado gets rid of the things they considered too tacky. Horrible place.
