Thank you Beds/Mattresses - Sleep Country / Ikea Curtains/Curtain Track - Walmart Electrical Goods - Best Buy / Future Shops Hope this helps. Please note these are in Toronto. Where do you intend to land? |
Re: Canadian Shops
They are called stores in Canada. A shop is equivalent to workshop in English English.
I'm not the world's greatest shopper but: Beds/Mattresses - Sleep Country, Sears/Bay department stores, other local furniture stores Curtains/Curtain Track - Linens 'n things, IKEA, Homesense Electrical Goods - Best Buy, Future Shop Canadian equivalents of places like dunelm mill? Any of the above (excluding the electric stores). I'm struggling a bit because I'd rather stick red hot needles under my finger nails than go shopping for soft furnishing. The bigger cities will also have very high-end soft furnishing places if you want to spend the $$$$$$. |
Re: Canadian Shops
Thank you. Yes it will be toronto.
Just looking at cheap to average priced goods. Cheers |
Re: Canadian Shops
Just remember, when buying a mattress, haggle your bollox off and they'll come down by 50, 60 or more percent. And, after agreeing a price, refuse to pay the delivery charge. They squirm and puff a bit, but if you're prepared to walk away, trust me, they'll remove it. That goes for all furniture expect pianos.

Just looking at cheap to average priced goods. Cheers Make sure you bring NCB from your car insurance company, although it does not help a great deal but better than nothing. |
Re: Canadian Shops
Of course it depends on which Province you settle in as to which shops/stores are the equivalent. It's a big ass country you know.

Re: Canadian Shops
Zellers is a very good "general stuff" store, it's sort of like Wilkinson but with more nice stuff. Don't know how it compares to Dunelm Mill but it's probably the sort of thing you're after.

Re: Canadian Shops
The which province thing is important. For some of us the nearest IKEA is a 3 hr flight away.;)

Re: Canadian Shops
I haggled recently when we bought our bed abd nattress but only a bit. Do Canadians haggle on everything? Electrics etc? Surely not in big department stores like ikea, etc?

Re: Canadian Shops
Good luck with finding anything like Dunelm Mill! The nearest I have found is The linen chest, which is really expensive. Places like the Bay are great but pricey and I find Zellers and Walmart low quality....I am trying to find something in the middle!

Re: Canadian Shops
That one sprung to mind too Steve. Not over priced - decent selection.
Alternatively just go to a Walmart Super Centre (went into one for the first time a couple of weeks ago - they are huge ) |
