Then why is she in the union?

Ok, I get it. You can't be a postie without being in the union?

This works great, except in a monopoly such as the postal service, which effectively hold the company and tax payers to ransom. AC are in the same position, however consumers do have some degree of choice, albeit limited.

The PS doesn't have a monopoly there are a myriad of ways to get letters and parcels delivered and other services provided by other businesses. People should have the right in a non war situation to bargin collectively and withhold their labour if necessary.

Canada Post is a monopoly? Perhaps 50 years ago it was, but how many (non junkmail) "letters" do you get in the average month?

I was astonished just last week to find a real letter from a friend in my mailbox.

Manangemet have *****ed up, so obviously the employees should sacrifice their pensions.

If you're savvy enough to find an expats forum and post a message, surely you're savvy enough to google 'Canada Post' and find out about the strike/lockout?

Bit weird to have a strike at this time of the year, usually postal strikes are around Christmas. I can't think of anything critical I get in the mail at this time of year. Guff from the CRA but I can always phone them or check their website.

I don't really care if they strike until the end of July frankly, won't make any difference to me.

Here you just put a note in your mailbox and they stop delivering it. Although stamps cost much more.

I do agree on LCBO though, that's a racket.

USPS receives no tax money from the US Government, they are required by law to be self sufficient.

The reason they wont stop junk mail is due to those companies paying to have the mail sent, its a source of revenue for the postal service.

"The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations."

As much as I sympathize with the Postal Workers, personally I gave up using the mail years ago for anything important.
