Arrived here on a WHV in 2008. Landed a permanent IT gig with a smaller VAR within 2 weeks. They helped me apply for PNP. They also applied for a work permit for me to pick up where the WHV would finish. After I got the PNP, they helped me apply for my PR.
Now I run my own corporation, and contract out at exorbitant rates to O&G companies around the city.

Just understood the PR (permanent residence?) and WHV must be working something visa... What is PNP?

VAR = Value added reseller
PNP = Provincial Nomination Program
WHV = Working Holiday Visa (called IEC now I think; International Experience Canada or something)

I landed in Vancouver in Jan 2013 and landed a helpdesk / Level 1 Support role within a month through an agency. It wasn't working out so last August i switched to a new company. There are a fair number roles out there as I found out when I decided to start looking for my 2nd role, sometimes you just have to be a little patient until something that suits comes available
