We did actually have M & S here until a few years ago. They were quite popular but got into trouble partly because they tried to circumvent the foreign investment regulations. They had a store in Square One in Mississauga among other places. As for packaged sarnies just like the OP says, you haven't looked. They are everywhere, including gas stations.

and the concept of pre-packaged sandwiches is virtually non-existent.
I do not know where you live or how long you have been in Canada, but pre-packaged sandwiches have been available here in abundance for many, many years.

In the small town where I live you can buy pre-packages sandwiches at the A&P(metro) or custom built ar Mr Sub or Subway.
