Re: Canadian Affair Deals - Promo Code
That's a really nice bargain. I just shelled out a lot of money to get my wife back to the UK for a few weeks to visit her parents. So I was quite surprised with how cheap you got your flight.
I tried playing around on Canadian Affair, to see if I could get a deal like yours with the promo code, around May, flying from Glasgow to Vancouver. I got it to around 280UKP and 300UKP without the promo code, still very reasonable.
Strange thing is, if you go the other way Canada -> UK the price nearly doubles, as taxes alone are always > $500 (whichever combination of date/destination airport I choose). Anyone know why you pay so much more in taxes when doing a round trip starting in Canada, as opposed to flying from the UK?

I have heard a few people on here say that it is far more expensive booking it for canada - uk....Best way to book is to phone through to canadian affair in London UK this way you can get the cheap prices without the tax...so I am told...I will be trying it next time we go to the UK

The taxes also include surcharges (usually fuel). For flights departing the UK, quoted ticket prices have to include tax (European legislation, I believe) whereas prices from North America generally do not (Americans and Canadians are used to seeing prices that do not include tax). Basically, airlines try to lure customers with very low headline fares; for example, one way Canada to UK can be as low as $49. Obvioulsy, when taxes are added, the actual fare paid is much higher, but the reason that UK-Canada fares are currently lower than Canada-UK is due to the current exchange rate.
