If you don't like Hash, try smoking Grass, better high, cheaper to.

Winter helps you appreciate summer, both weeks.

Are you sure Canada is right for you then?!? Personally I loathe hot weather and much prefer it when it's cold and v snowy so it will suit me but you'd better get used to temps in the minuses and lots of snow if you're heading to the east coast - or alternatively, consider Australia.........!!

Long winters are a fact of life here. Life goes on, and work continues. Although in some regions there may be a bit of a slow-down. I operate a roofing company here in the prairies, and have shut it down until the end of March. Too dangerous at this time of year, plus ashphalt shingles don't lay down too well when applied in low temperatures. However, other trades are still working. Dress appropriately and you will be ok. Concrete can still be poured using anti-freeze agents etc. If you don't relish the cold, try looking at British Columbia, very mild compared to the rest of the Country. Much depends on your particular trade.
Good luck!

Hash winters on the West Coast my man. Leastways that's what they tell me.

Fact o' the matter is that you'll be working construction in pretty much any weather. Suggest you visit www.marks.com when you get here and stock up on thermal workwear. Either that or choose somewhere a little warmer!

I have been amazed to see builders on houses here when it's minus 20.

Aw, you need to buy a new thermal cup we can't have your Timmies getting cold, that could spark off a whole new problem

They work at all weathers here in Regina - took builders 2 weeks to get the carcus of a 2 storey house up by me and that's up on the prairie in all the wind and weather. When I passed the estate this morning at 7:30 in the pitch black they were there with big lights putting windows in.

It is a totally different cold over here. In the UK if it was sub zero i never ventured out. We had minus 22 the other week, that was sore but other than that its not too bad. I came out of a shop the other day and forgot to do my coat up, it was minus 9. The missus pointed out that i must have settled in pretty well since my jacket was open.

I was speaking to a builder today about the house being built next door. They've bricked it over the winter, under a cover, section by section. The guy said they needed to heat this new brickwork to about 30 or 40sth degrees (I guess he meant celsius?), there are propane flame heater thingies going all night. As a result, it's so hot inside the house, that the guys who are doing the joinery work and floors are all wearing t-shirts

Some building sites might be bloody freezing though, obviously

If you are going to get a thermal cup, get a good one. Make sure that it has a stainless steel lining NOT the cheap black plastic. It'll keep your coffee warm for hours.
