Is Canada really so intolerant?

When someone speaks up for the oppressed, or against occupation of foreign lands?
Are Canadians are not as politically aware and fully believe what media-with-agenda pours into their ears? Are politicians free to do whatever they want? Does something called ‘Freedom of Speech’ does exist at all or people with diverse views are not admissible/liked in this land of ‘multi-culturism’?

Short answer is NO, they are a pretty tolerant bunch.
Galloway got himself in trouble with his support of Hamas, which is on the canadian list of terrorist groups, so hes blacklisted. My personal view is that he should be allowed in, but then you get into the whole area of bending rules for some and not others, and thats not really fair either, so you are damned if you do, damned if you dont.
This was all discussed yesterday in this thread.....if you want to add your thoughts there to all the others...

Short answer is no. The current Government led by Stephen Harper are working tirelessly to change that though.

I don't think we are necasarily intolerant, I think a fair share of people get annoyed by the fact that its not so much that we dislike foreigners, but that I look around when i'm out, and as a caucasian I feel as though I am the minority, and soon enough i'm sure I will be. Also in downtown Calgary a couple days ago there was a group supporting different races, and apparently 30 neo nazis went and rallyed against them, which I found terrifying to read about.

Probably depends where you are in Canada, but bare in mind that historically Canada does not belong to the caucasians, and if nothing else, your last point seems to illustrate that freedom of speech and tollerance (even of the intollerant) is allive and well here....

30, out of 1 million Calgarians. That's a good (small) ratio!

I thought it was the other way around. The Aryan Race (or whatever they are called) held a rally (with the approval of the authorities) that was objected to by a mob of 300 or so. My interpretation of the newspaper article that reported on it, was that it was the mob that assaulted the attendees of the rally

Sad reflection of society.

Much as a totally disagree with their views (The Aryan Race) they do have a right to express them.

The original Rally was BY the White Supremacists, the anti-racism group went to demonstrate against them. CPS arrested members from both sides when it turned Violent.
Apparently we still have freedom of speech in Calgary, next time I see a Neo-Nazi I'll go and call him a racist ***** see how much he appreciates my 'free speech'
