Good to read that article sinope. However, Mr Banshee is finding that potential employers he's contacting don't even know about the provincial nominee programme. So, unless these employers are being informed about how work permits work (we've found they're also clueless about this on the whole) then what use is it?
What the Canadian immigration people say and what they do are 2 completely different things.

Depressing isn't it? I am beginning to wonder if it might be worth sending all of the work permit info on a seperate sheet of paper to the cover letter and resume when my partner applies for jobs. After all, most small to medium sized businesses anywhere in the world probably wouldn't have the first clue about how to employ a foreign national. Maybe if we made it easier for the Canadian companies by giving them all of the relevant info they might not just chuck our resumes in the shredder as soon as they see the address.
It may well worth it to do that sinope - make it as easy as possible for them.
When Mr Banshee applies for a job he usually follows it up with a telephone call after about a week. Then he explains about the PNP/work permit process and that we have got contacts who are happy to go through the process with them. However, when we've tried to call the NS office recently all we're getting is either an engaged tone or answerphone!
We've left messages but do they call back? No! We're fast running out of time 'cos our son starts college in September and we said we'd give it until the end of June, given that if Mr Banshee gets a job by then it will take a few months for the p/work to go through. While I'm on the subject of time frames, we're finding that employers don't want to have to wait 2-3 months for you to get over there. The whole process is driving me crazy
I'm starting to think that we're not meant to go 'cos we're coming up against brick walls.

I am beginning to dread Tuesday mornings and the slog through monster, workopolis, job bank et al. Then the follow up calls where the person on the other end of the phone has the attitude of 'Why are you calling me exactly?' That pisses my partner off no end.

You'll get there, it will just take a bit of time. Can Mr Banshee go out to NS for a week to try and find work? Mr Sinope is planning on going to Alberta in the summer (hopefully with some interviews already lined up) to cold call on companies he like the look of. It worked for Gaynor's husband and several other people on here.

The only time we can concentrate on Canada is in the evenings when we're home from work and have had tea. Yes, it is a continual uphill struggle I agree. Mr Banshee and I both have bad days, but luckily they are on different days, so one of us is usually positive IYGWIM.
We have thought of Mr Banshee going over for a week, but he was going for interviews when we were over in NS last August and didn't land a job. We can't afford for him to go over at the moment, though he has said to companies if they are interested in a face to face interview he would fly over. Like Tangram says, keep knocking on doors and maybe one will open?

This really confuses me...
My first WP was valid for two years as was my second. My last is only valid for a year, but I know that I can extend it, and there's no moving away from Canada for four months... I'm really confused...

So am I !!! I understood we were going to be liekyl to get at least a 2 year permit- never mind this moving away for 4 months. maybe it depends on the type of worker?

It applied to Noc class 3 folks...truck drivers and the like AFAIK. Outside of Ontario they were mostly covered by the PNPs, so this only really makes a small impact overall, but its good for truckers who want to come to Ontario I guess?

They turned round and told our corporate legal advisor that unless I applied for permanent residency they wouldn’t renew my work visa next year.
However as long I was in the application queue I could expect it to be renewed for as long as it takes to get PR.
Work is now in the process of sorting out my PR.
I believe the unofficial policy is that they now no-longer renew work visas after some predetermined period (this would have been my 5th year) unless you show some intent to stay in Canada ie PR
I had some time to kill on my last rip through an airport, the line I got form a immigration official was that the Work visa was to become a route to entice people to come and stay in Canada and not a long term solution to skill shortages.
To some extend he eluded that it should become one of the solutions to immigrants turning up and not being able to find work, ie skilled worker PR’s from outside will be harder to come by as the work permit becomes the preferred route of entry
