Canada border services agency?
hello all.
im a uk police officer and canadian PR and im moving back to canada as soon as my house sells. im part way through the calgary police application. however ive decided i just want to be back in canada ASAP so im going back and staying even tho i havnt got the job yet. so im was thinking of applying for the CBSA to fill in time between me arriving and hopefully eventually starting with the calgary police. does anyone on here work for them? whats it like? i quite fancy working at calgary airport. and seems like a good job that i could enjoy for as long as it takes for me to get in the police there. maybe even longer. ta scott (on cara's log in) |

it says citizen or PR eligable to apply.
whats SOL? Most government jobs say that, but in practice it Citizens who get the jobs. A big deal was made of all the government jobs that were now an option when I was sworn in. Dont know if its still the same. I guess it doesnt hurt to ask. |

Re: Canada border services agency?
My husband is trying to join the Fredericton Police Force but we have just been told that only Canadian Citizens can apply. This is extremely frustrating as most of Canada's other Police Forces take PR's. Why not one rule for all Police Forces....??? Grrrrrrrrr:frown:
Rant over - just disappointed :o |

I don't think so - but don't quote me on that. i hadn't noticed anything on the website to stipulate that - but i'm off right now to find out!
Thanks for pointing that out Souvenir, it's something that I completely overlooked!;) |

Re: Canada border services agency?
Is NB French different than canadian french (which i beleive is also different from French French!!!)
I've just re-read the Police Website which does not stipulate that you need to speak French, neither does the admission requirements for the Atlantic Police Academy. I am in contact with a member of the Police Force over there so will ask him when we next 'speak'. I'm like a little terrier when i get hold of an idea - just won't let it go until i get an answer!!!! Will keep you informed:thumbup: |

She has a hell of a job understanding many Brit accents and she doesn't do much better with the NB Acadian accent. |

My ex, as Souvenir knows, is a Swiss francophone. In NB she speaks to the francophones in English as it's easier than trying to fathom their French.

Re: Canada border services agency?
I was a Copper in the UK for 10yrs, I have lived in Canada for a couple of years now. I once applied to the CBSA, I spoke to a recruiter who told me that a PR can apply, but preference will always be given to a Canadian. So basically forget it for now!
I just got accepted by the Campus Police at my local University. I will be off to Guelph in a week for my Police Cyclist course!!! Anyway looking forward to getting back into policing again here. Should be more fun than my Production Manager job... All the best! |
