Can We Afford To Move? Help please!
#1
Hi, we are considering a move over to Vancouver Island, most likely Langford area but right now I am sorting out a budget to see whether it is actually feasible. I am Canadian but have been living here in the UK for about 15 years now and am really keen to get back to the mother land. We all have residency so financially that is not an issue, it is just a question as to whether we can afford it all what with the British pound being so low.
I have a pretty good idea about most bills as I have done some research but am not sure about what we would be entitled to. Does anyone know whether we would be entitled to the Canadian child benefit or not. Do we need to be in the country for 3 months like we would with the healthcare system.
I would also appreciate any information about dental coverage. I know that most people get there dental and heath coverage through work but I may be coming out next year with our 3 children and setting up home before my husband comes out if he hasn't found a job yet. I am also hoping to work but am not sure how feasible that would be in those initial first months if I am by myself with the kids and getting them settled. As far as health coverage goes I am assuming that Blue Cross is the best option unless anyone has any other suggestions.
As a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 small children) what could I expect my monthly outgoings to be not including rent/mortgage? I have a pretty good idea but am curious to as to I am way of base as it seems to be pretty high.
Many thanks everyone and I look forward to the responses!
