I'm a Brit who has just got a HRDC file number for a temporary work visa. Now, I will very shortly be in northern U.S.A. Can I apply for it through the Buffalo office, or will I have to send all of my documents back to Britain, and the High Commission in London? Thanks for your help with this.

you can apply via buffalo... you will be required to show proof of your current status...

Thanks for your answer, but what does "proof of your status" actually mean?

documentation thats issued by the ins that says what your current status in the us is... a visit visa... a work permit etc...
to ensure that you are not living illegally in the country that you are applying from...
