You lucky dog, you have a 17" powerbook? I've just ordered a 14" ibook with superdrive, expecting it in 11 days and counting.
Nice to know there's another Macer around. We need your support from all the raz we get from the Mac haters group on the forum (all in good fun of course).

Hi
one of the areas which Canada (and the rest of the world) is lagging behind the U.K. is DAB although Toronto and Vancouver do have a few stations.
This is mainly due to the BBC taking up the technology from the beginning.
Had a good look around the news stands but cannot find any mags similar to 'Stuff' or 'T3'.

I think you're more likely to see people in Canada tuck themselves out of public space to talk on their cellphones so as not to be seen as self-important and rude than you would in the UK. In the UK, "talking on the phone in public" irritates a lot of people but I don't think it has such negative connotations as it does in Canada.
I have issues with mobile phone users as well.

Thanks tpiper - that is exactly what I needed to hear.

Regarding mobile phones, just got a Rogers Wireless SIM card for $25 and topped it up with pay as you go. I used http://www.mobilestuff4u.com/ to generate the right codes to unlock my UK nokia 6600 phone. It works fine... I understand you can upgrade to a monthly contract easily too..

Anti social toys?
from my (biased) opinion it depends what you use them for. for me the mobile phone is simple a network connection for my mobile computer. I deliberatly purchased a pocket pc without a phone - for several reasons - less to go wrong, why be tied to an old tele-communications technology in 3 years because I expect a pocket pc to last longer than a phone, if I want to go out and take my phone I dont need to take the pocket pc etc. Having a mobile phone gives you a car phone which is useful for the times you are meeting someone ans stuck in traffic etc etc etc - I am not one of those people that goes to a pub and talks on the phone. However they are good when you go to a concert and one person goes to the bar and sends a text message back to tell you what beers they have so you can choose without having to go with them - lol or in a boring business meeting when you want to tell your colegue on the other side of the room that the speaker is talking a load of crap.

Have you seen the new Apple stor in Regents Street? It's almost enough to make me go back home.
I think another reason Canadians don't use mobiles so much is that they don't have sad, empty, little lives and actually spend their time more constructively than beep, beep, beeping away at their little antisocial toys.

Thanks
Looks like another good reason to move over to your wonderful country - get the gadgets before they come to Europe.

I agree entirly with you. Whilst I am a mobile phone user I think a lot of people use them to make themselves look more important. I find them a useful tool if used for good reasons and agree it is rude to talk openly in public as you often see in UK. I would often duck out of the main streem if I needed to make a call not just continue to walk along the street - in a look at me style.
Dont lable all mobile phone users the same - just the arrogant ones you see - lol

I think it's not a matter of Canadians being "behind the UK" in the use of mobile technology but the cultural difference in how that technology is used.
