Default Calgary Where too Live?

Hey guys could anyone advice me on somewhere to rent. I am a 23 year old lad arriving in Calgary mid march. hope to stay in a hostel for the first 2 weeks, but really went to get somewhere after that as i don't want to get caught up in that drinking/backpacking lifestyle as i am coming to work. I will be hopefully looking to get in to a shared house. my work at the start will hopefully be in one of the bars downtown. so i am basically looking for somewhere safe, not too expensive and with easy access to the c-train. Thanks for anyone who gives a reply its really helping me out.. i am coming from a tiny town of 2 thousand so to me Calgary will be a huge city 1 million + so really looking forward to it now.

Hey - if you are young and looking for downtown bar work then personally I would stay downtown. There are lots of apartment options, take a look at the link below. When selecting "inner-city" I would look for the ones that actually list "downtown".

http://www.rentfaster.ca

The further you go out to the burbs the more boring you would find it but I guess you then have more of a chance of finding a house share which helps with meeting people straight away! You should be able to find house shares on:

http://calgary.kijiji.ca/

Too many variables and too many options to list areas now. Most people say NW or SW but that rules out some areas which are absolutely fine. I would suggest looking for one you like then posting for further advice on the area.

If I were you, I'd be looking for an apartment-share or house-share either downtown or in Kensington/Sunnyside.

Sunalta would be another good option. It's on the western edge of downtown, and is served by a c-train station which opened last month.

Hey - well you are in the right place for information but should start by reading the wiki (accessible from top menu bar) and if still have questions then post a new thread rather than hijacking someone else's. Forum etiquette and all

Hey guys said i would post here as i didn't want to start a new thread. Have been looking in to areas and a few areas have been recommended to me anyone have any experience of living in these areas? Bankview, Mount Royal, Knob Hill (lol), Killarney (travel 6000 miles from home and your still stuck in Killarney), Glengarry? the price can range from 500-700 for a single room sharing so just trying to get as much info on the areas as possible.
Ross.

Calgary is a small, wonderful, safe and friendly city... I would recommend to live in the west of the city. any place west ... but if you go north or south, then keep it near to downtown... you can ended up way south (more than 1 hour commute).

You can use rentfaster.ca because they have a map. they let you search geographically... kijiji is great for rooms-share accomodation, but it is only names of places and communities and i know that this does not mean anything to a new comer.

Simple: West or North west or South West... Search in this square:
North border: Nose Hill park (nice natural area)
South border: Glenmore trail. You have anoter big parks and also the biggest mall in Calgary: Chinook centre
East border: Central street / MAcleod trail.
West border: Crowchild trail.

Have fun!!!!
