Sept 20th ... the day started cloudy ... then we had moderate rain ... then we had snow ... now it's starting to brighten up ... it's not even noon yet!
Bored with the weather in Calgary? Just wait five minutes, something else will come along ....

That's pretty much Calgary weather from October through to the end of May ... sometimes we get snow in late September & early June to vary things a bit.
The good news is that the sky is blue 90% of the time and sometimes it's 20C at Christmas ... then again, sometimes it snows in August.
The only real hardship of a winter in Calgary is that your can't keep your back yard rink frozen very easilly ... the chinooks tend to melt them.

When I was at university there was a quite serious proposal to build the world's largest snow castle, to take the world record from Finland, who still hold the record I think. The civil engineering students designed the structure, talks were underway to borrow snow making machines from Calgary Olympic Park, along with trucking in some snow from the mountains (the engineering students do this every year anyway to build snow sculptures about campus).
What finally scuppered the plan was the Chinook risk.
