I am near to get my PR. I am software engineer and right now working in usa.
I am married and have 6 months old son.
I read a lot about Vancouver, Calgary/Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto? I narrow down to Calgary/Edmonton or Vancouver...
I am not sure where to move? Calgary has more jobs/ growing faster/no prov. tax/ oil money/lot of snow/cold/ may be oil pollution and gas problem.
Vancouver - nice weather/beautiful drive/sea/very expensive/few jobs in IT.

My hair has a tendency to frizz, I therefore chose Calgary over Vancouver.
And for those who are laughing, I really ain't kidding. Sad thing is, we've ended up with Winnipeg. Who knows what effect this will have on my 'do.

I hate rain - I choose Calgary over Vancouver.
It was more complicated than that of course - before anyone tells me I've oversimplified!

have you visited both places? It really is up to your individual choice (and also where you can get a job). Personally i think Calgary is more affordable (say to buy a house and such) while some people may like Vancouver for all the skiing and hiking. Try to go visit the cities and see it for yourself, and also try to gather as much info online as you can. Best of luck! It is exciting to start your life in either of those cities i think.

Before I came to Canada that would've been bottom of my list, but I can see it has one major advantage....
JOBS!!
Calgary has very low unemployment, hence go there.
Actually, I think you have the climate thing wrong.....
Vancouver is very wet, Calgary is arid and very sunny.
Calgary has a better climate in my opinion.

Hello
I will make it easy for you, whilst people in Calgary are dealing with snow and minus temperatures at the moment, we sensible people in Vancouver are basking in the sun with temperatures of 18 degrees and watching our kids sports in a teeshirt today, I don't know anything about a lot of rain......
Hope this helps.

Let's simplify the decision tree for this sort of question:
Q1. Can't decide where to go in Canada.
A1. Iqaluit looks like a good destination for you.
Q2. No, I've norrowed it down to western Canada.
A2. Vancouver looks like a good destination for you ... your hair may frizz and you may develop webbed feet, but look on the bright side, you don't have to shovel rain.
Q3. No, I've norrowed it down to eastern Canada.
A3. The maritimes look like a good destination for you ... you still get to build snow forts and it's warmer than Iqaluit.

Definitely Edmonton, AB.
All the Calgary traits plus cheaper housing and better public transportation minus oil pollution and gas problem.
One advice when looking for housing in Edmonton: Stay as far as possible from West Edmonton Mall.
You can always move to Red Deer (between Calgary and Edmonton) [just kidding]
Vancouver has become a zoo in the past 5 years.
Fewer IT jobs = 0 unless you are a Nobel price winner or you are James Gosling or Bjorn Stroustrup.
I tend to agree with iaink "Go where you can get a job. You can't eat scenery."
