Re: Calgary meet up
Ok so I have spoken to the staff at the Kensington and they are unable to reserve a table.
They said it would start filling up at about 4.30 with locals having a drink on there way home from work, but would then clear slightly at around 6.
SO what i am going to do instead is inform the bar staff of my name and whats going on and anyone who thinks they will definitely be there PM me, I will give you some details.
As for which side of the pub probably the side nearest Kensington road, but this all depends on where a table or seats become available.

From Hockey For Dummies
The following content is excerpted from Hockey For Dummies, published by IDG Books Worldwide.
Early Hockey
What is Hockey?
Hockey has been played for longer than any of us has been alive, but we can't tell you exactly when it was invented, or by whom, because no one really knows for sure. We do have some idea of how it got started, however, and we can describe the ways the game has grown and changed over the years. Once a relatively obscure recreation for people who lived in the north country, hockey is now played all over the world and has become one of the most popular winter sports. Frankly, we don't know what we'd do without it, and millions of other people feel the same way.
The Origins of the Game
Most historians place the roots of hockey in the chilly climes of northern Europe, specifically Great Britain and France, where field hockey was a popular summer sport more than 500 years ago. When the ponds and lakes froze in winter, it was not unusual for the athletes who fancied that sport to play a version of it on ice.

It is clear that "REAL Hockey" originated from Europe and was played on grass except by a few enthusiasts, who wanted to play all year round so played on frozen lakes. When Europeans colonised north america they brought the sport with them, but because of the generally colder weather the ICE game developed to a greater extent.
Therefore REAL hockey is field hockey. Ice hockey is a mere offshoot! QED.
