Re: Calgary June 5th, here we come.
A lot of us on here didn't get asked for our GTF list on landing..... The immigration officer just gave me a leaflet with custom's number to call when my stuff arrived..... nothing to stop us "updating" my list over and over :p

I have heard that if you update after you land then there is tax on importing stuff...... Better to get everything on that list and then if you decide to turn up with a suitcase there is no harm done ;) Good luck for the landing, yep rain for the weekend in calgary, slightly less here in the bridge :p:p |
Re: Calgary June 5th, here we come.
Thanx everyone for you info regarding the GTF list. We have got quite a good list with the estimated values on things. Its just one of those things you cant really list it all properly till it gets packed and ready for shipping. I will let you know how we get on.
Off to bed now for early drive down to Heathrow in the morning. Thanx.:) |

Hi all, we are off to activate our visas and do some job and house hunting in the Calgary area. Anyone else flying Air Canada from Heathrow to Calgary tomorrow.
Also do we need goods to follow even though we are returning in two weeks. We have got a list but obviously not as detailed as may be required. Thanx. :) Have a great safe flight can't wait to hear about your landing  sue x |

Re: Calgary June 5th, here we come.
Hi guys
A quick update for you. We are now landed and things went well. Immigration went well, (but we did end up with a UK IO) Then through to customs who were also nice asked us for COPR forms and if we had a GTF list. We explained about the list might not be complete as we are not moving out yet, but she said what we had was good, and not to worry to much about it. She filled a form in we signed and that was that. I did ask what would happen if we had not got the GTF list and she said that they would ask us to create a list off the top of our heads. So thanks for the advice to go armed with the lists. Thanks again. :) |

Firstly, congrats on getting to the end of the journey. Hope you have a good trip across.
We believe Almost Canadian is correct to point out that updating your GTF list after it has been stamped by customs opens you up to the possibility of incurring a hit on tax, so, even if many of the entries are general in nature, try and make the GTF list cover all your belongings. You've no doubt seen this but the WIKI article helps. http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Goods_To_Follow Kind regards, Eamonn & Janet. We moved to Calgary in October 08. When our container came in December 08 we went to the customs office to collect it, We presented our goods to follow list (as we had made one up when we knew what goods were following) no problems no taxes. HOWEVER...... It depends on the Goods and as Eamonn says you could be liable the taxes. Our goods were normal, non electrical household goods, I am sure if you have high value items, antiques, jewellery then taxes could well be applied. A lot of people on the forum say you MUST have GTF form when you land this is good advice and solves a lot of issues but not the end of the world if you don't have one. I can only speak for the customs personell i met in Toronto and Calgary but all have been helpful, courteous and welcoming. ENJOY CALGARY |
