Hello I am new to this forum. Me and the wife are looking to move to canada we have the finances available to buy a property outright. But their is a couple of questions that I would like answered beforehand
1) Is their any resrtictions on non Canadians buying property or land in canada
2) How long can I stay in canada when visiting from the UK and after I leave how long before I can come back.
3) If I buy a farm in canada and it fails can I then enter the employment market.

Welcome Tamhay.
At the risk of being rude please search the archive. Short answers are
1. No, no problem.
2. 6 months at first, but its discressionary and if anyone knows the rules they arent telling.
3.Dont know, but probably not a problem.
Hopefully Tiaribbon will see this thread and fill in the detail, they are doing just this thing.
Cheers
Iain

There is no restrictions on non canadians buying a property here. On how long you can stay here, it depends on the immigration officer at the port of entry, your british passport allows you to stay for 6 months, but like I said, depends on the officer.

We bought a farm back in February and it was absolutely plain sailing, no problems whatsoever. We are (hopefully) at the tail end of our Immigration now and are hoping for PR around about Christmas time.
You can stay in Canada for the usual 6 months at a time, however if you are going in on the Business Immigration I think they give you a grace period in order to A: find a farm and B: start making alterations or convertions as necessary. You are still not allowed to work or take in any money from your farm but you are allowed to refence, erect buildings etc. We haven't gone down this route but I know some people on here have.
If you go in on the Self-employed category the only stipulation is that you buy a farm. If it fails then you can move straight into the employment market. Immigration keep no tabs on you once you have landed in Canada and you will have the same rights as any other PR in respects to working.
Good luck, it's easy. Do remember though that if you buy a farm and are not resident in Canada then you will need to get someone to care for the land and you may find insuring it takes a little while. We didn't have any problems with insurance as we took cover out with the same company as the farmer whom we are leasing the land to, as he is on the property every day.
We honestly haven't looked back and are so pleased with our beautiful farm. Just dying to get out there as soon as possible. The only reason we have held back is because we are taking my daughter's pony (VERY spendy) and we don't want to end up in a situation that we have to exit Canada for even a short time and the pony will have to remain, but if it wasn't for her coming I think we would have taken our chances this summer and just waited for our (imminent?) PR in Canada.
Best of luck,
Tia

It's always good to rent at first, get to know the areas, and find the one that suits you, than just taking the plunge straight away. Montreal is a great city, and contrary to what people say, they do speak english in most places, and the restaurants have both menus.
Here is a place to throw you question, you might even find your answer there:

I have learnt a lot from it, and it's helped us a lot. Now how about some karma points
