Default Buying a car in Nova Scotia

Guys,

We arrive in NS at the end of August and need to buy a car, any tips or contacts from personal experience will be very welcome.

We will be in Halifax for a few days then the Windsor area for 10 days before moving to our rental on the South Shore.

We can look any where in NS if there are any personal recomendations.

Thanks for the tips.

Cheers,

Dave and Jo.

If you do a search on BE you will find this subject has been discussed quite often in the past. Nikki dreaming has just moved here and bought a car so might also be worth sending her a pm, although sure she will be along soon. We bought both our vehicles from O'reagans and found them very good - OH's company also uses them for lease vehicles

Hi

We got ours from a local dealer in Truro, but O'Regans were also recommended to us, let me know if you would like anymore info, but think it may be a bit far out of your way??

Good luck with your plans

There is a really long road in lower Sackville, just of the 101 motorway I think out of Halifax (follow the signs for the Annapolis Valley motoway, but you come off almost straight away out of Halifax)

On this road (not too clear on the info am I?!!) is a load of car dealers, literally a dozen or more. I think that is a great place to find a car, as the competition is higher.

Perhaps someone could better describe the ramble above lol!

Be very careful with those on Sackville Drive. Many unscrupulous Arthur Daley types

I thought 'unscrupulous' and 'used car dealer' were synonyms?

1. if you are buying/leasing new, you should get a Car Cost Canada report ($30) or an APA report ($65). This gives you the MSRP price, the dealers cost plus any incentives that are available. You should, depending on the popularity of the model be able to negotiate a price about %2-%4 above dealer cost.
2. If you are buying used, get a Car Proof report, list liens, accidents, sales and oddometer readings.
