I'm not certain that it's 13%, it's the current rate of sales tax based on the receipt for the car payable at registration (book value comes into it for newer cars but, at this price, I expect they'll accept the receipt). 13% sounds about right.

Its 13% of the BLUE BOOK valuation of whatever you decide to get. That value should be in the "Sellers Package" that the seller should have got from the licensing people. With cars they base it on the vehicle appraisal value, not what you actually pay. Too many people doing cash deals for fake receipts I guess.

Check out the Ontairo "MTO" website, it spells out the procedures for buying and selling... you will likely need a temporary tag in order to insure and drive the vehicle away, before getting your permanent plate.

My 1993 Honda currently shows a value of $0 on the sellers package. I am a lover of cheap cars but would be scared of something that cheap here.
