My husband and I are travelling to British Columbia next month.
We will be leaving Whistler on July 3rd and making our way back down to Vancouver. We would like to purchase 2 tickets from greyhound to take us back to Vancouver, my question is - what is the best method to purchase the tickets if we are not in Canada yet? Should we wait until we get to Canada or should we order them now either on line or over the phone?

According to the Greyhound web-site, you can get one way tickets on this date for $39 (for both of you with the 'companion fare').

It gives you the option of printing the ticket at home, picking up at the terminal, or having it sent in the mail.

If you buy in advance you will save money vs buying the same day.

However greyhound seats passengers on a first come first served basis, as in whoever is in line first, not when tickets were purchased. Tickets will not guarantee you will get on the bus.

Thanks for the replies. I have just came off the phone to our tour operator, Canadian Affair, and they have quoted us £60 for a bus transfer (dont know who with..)

But after already getting 'stung' by them for £98 for a 24 hour car hire (driving from victoria to whistler) then we thought we would try source our return journey / transportation ourselves!
That price does not include ferry transfer...
(tried to cancel but told would lose all the money)...

So can any1 recocommend a decently priced bus/train company we could use to travel from whistler to vancouver on the sunday 3rd ?
(no thrills acceptable ha )

Also, on the journey from victoria to whistler, Does any1 know which ferry crossing to take? Do the tickets need to be bought in advance or can you just turn up with the car?

You can certainly see a side of North American life on a Greyhound bus you are unlikely to see elsewhere, but Whistler to Vancouver will probably be OK.

A more expensive alternative is Pacific Coach Lines http://www.pacificcoach.com/Bus-Coac...n-to-Vancouver

I've taken the whistler/vancouver greyhound a few times - it's perfectly ok. The first year I was here they had a really good deal of a return trip + lift pass for $100 or so.

Edit: Though with pacific, they might be able to get a through ticket to Victoria.

Just tried checking availability on the pacific coach website... No trips available.. maybe as its a sunday?

Will check the greyhound, though a little concerned about the "1st come 1st serve " basis..
Dont fancy a free for all to get on the bus! and the possibility of waiting an unknown length of time..

Im thinkin it could be busy as the friday 1st is canada day, possibly alot more people in whistler than normal??

It's not like that, honest. I've taken it a few times. Just make sure you're there to board when they say (they tell you to get there earlier). I"ve never been left off a bus yet.

That is strange.

The do have a scheduled service to the Airport that day. Leaving Whistler at 9.00AM. The fare is $60.48 each without any promo codes, plus $8.75 for the Sky Train back to downtown.

I have been left off a bus once going to Whistler this past winter, and 2 times between Abbotsford and Vancouver. 3 times out of 20 total trips so far this year, is not entirely bad however, but it does happen during busier time periods.

My rule is to never take the last bus of the day.
