I suspect ANYWHERE in Canada has a bug problem (usually blackfly) at certain times of year so NS will be no exception. Except the North Shore of course. No bugs there in paradise.

More seriously, doubtless on of the Nova Scotians will be along momentarily to reassure / worry you with actual bug related data for NS.

Yep....they're called that because they are big enough to RIDE a horse.........TRUE !
Honestly , we moved house (and it was a gorgeous property ) because the amount of mosquitos was unbearable . Cutting the grass with the 4' ride-on mower was an ordeal........so check out the area for bugs before purchasing !!!!

i was outside in the evening a lot last year during the summer as most of the footy is played then. our particular pitch is right next to some open ditches with still water in them, not exactly old trafford. not a problem with any kind of mossie or other fly. seems in can alter dramatically just within your province let alone canada.

I'd like to take this opportunity to gloat...

Bugs are a non issue in Victoria... mosquitos/blackflies exists but sucked out to sea in the off shore breezes... more inland you go there will be some but in the city... nadda... very rare... not a thing we think about.

but then... I've got that rare chemical makeup that repells mosquitos anyway... they fly by, hover and move on... sort of like men.

Yes....hideous things too.

The brown tipped death fly
The blackworm turpid moth
Ganges fly
Morphing urk grub
The hairy stinkfester
Mottled hinge-flapping mugwort
Blue hovering dinklebat

Mosquito's would be the major bothersome insect in Calgary and southern Alberta, black flies not an issue, I'm not sure I would even recognise a black fly there are so few of them.

Similar here on the Rock. We get some in late May/Early June but generally it's windy enough to keep them away.

but then... I've got that rare chemical makeup that repells mosquitos anyway... they fly by, hover and move on... sort of like men.
We found out last year on our Africa trip that Mrs AX is very attractive to mosquitos, so much so in fact, that they left me alone!
