i'm applying from united states and it took me only two months to recieve a letter requesting to sent my passport.

On Oct. 2003 i finish my medical and i recieve passport request letter on Dec. 2003.

i think it also depends on security, background and country........

good luck.

We applied through Buffalo and did medicals in June and got passport request October. However this was largely due to us sorting out police fingerprints from the FBI as the first application had the wrong form of payment and was returned and the second application was unreadable, and you guessed it, was returned. The fingerprints were eventually sorted in August so the passport request took another 2 months after that.

By the way, are you applying via Buffalo from Canada or applying from UK? You mentioned both earlier!

Where are you originally from? although u were on a work permit in canada? I ask because it seems that you waited a long time. They told me (lawyers) i should expect between 2-4 months to hear back for my passport request after the medical was completed and posted.

thanks

I applied around 4 months ago, and am currently in Canada on what is now my third visitor visa which is now a 12 month visa. I'm now married to a canadian lady - and am hoping to get the ok to get my butt out in the working environment within 2 months (so I was advised by immigration).

a) not to get a lawyer, i was advised it was a waste of time - ie does not improve the time it will take. However looking back it was a complicated process - and if you have the cash to spend then I suggest spending and get a lwayer to do the work.

b) As for applying through buffalo - I did not have to. After a lot a reading etc, and to be honest cant really remember why - but quite simply you have a number of options when applying for PR - and I applied via a canadian office. I took the medical at the local doctors in London, Ontario and sent off for my british legal thing - which took only a week or so.

c) Remember, although it can be a pain to get through to the immigration by phone, it can be very useful - obviously depending on who you speak to.

dont forget though that I have been advised that I am on the quickest route through immigration - ie marriage to a canadian, and it will take a minimum of 6 months, just for the first stage that will then allow me to work - whilst they do the rest!

I actually spoke to a lawyer breifly once who suggestted that without the marriage or at least a valid reason to be over here, they would only renew the visa once, wheras now they have just given me an extra 12 months on my present visa!

Anyway, I hope this is useful to you. I'll keep my eyes on this forum to see if there is any help - an experianced guy like me can give. Oh, just remembered something..... I was very annoyed to find out that it would take a maximum of 10 working days to get my canadian wife back into the uk, and allow her to work! What can you say.....

Anyway good luck.

Will

Did you do your fingerprints for RCMP police certificate? This one may take up to five months.
I'm also in Canada and did my medicals, now waiting for passport request. But I don't expect it soon since having the police certificate from ottawa takes 150 days (as per their web site).

Miked260772 ,
Did they send your passport back by normal US mail or by any express courier?
Thanks...
