Default Are BTEC/A levels considered post secondary education in Canada?

Hi,

I am currently a PR of Canada and have been working here for a few years now. I was thinking of going as a mature student since I am 25 and have been out of education for years but now realized what I wanted to do and study.

I got a reply from one university saying I'm not qualified as a mature student as I said I went to a sixth form college after secondary school at 16 to a BTEC diploma. But it made me think is that post secondary? Because I think of post secondary as something past the age of 18. Since we finish school at 16 in the UK, Canadians don't finish until 18.

What do I do at this stage? It's annoying because they said they can't count my college courses as it's post secondary (it's unlikely they will count to be a transfer applicant the way they way making it out to be) but will count my GCSE's though my GCSE's are really poor... While my BTEC and A level have good grades...

What options do I have?

something like this which every Canadian university has under 'international students'. For the link below, open the UK tab on the list of countries

BCIT : : Admission & Registration : : International High-School Equivalencies

Basically, the A levels are similar to high school graduation diploma in Canada for university undergrad entrance

The 2-year BTEC (NVQ 3) diploma is approx to 2 year full time college diploma in Canada

The HNC, approx NVQ 3 + a bit

The HND is approx equivalent to a 3-year full time Canadian college diploma

Would I be considered international though as I'm a PR and have been out of high school for nearly 8 years?

international high school qualifications is the more precise term, not the fact that you're in Canada. Since you have GCSE as well as A levels, then reference back to the links.

What is your BTEC diploma, is it ordinary two year or the HND level, then there is your other qualifications along with 'mature'.

If its one of the two BC places in the links above, I would go back at them armed with the print off of the UK tab listed qualifications

Caution, I believe being out of high school more than 5 years (rule) some universities have a different entrance acceptance. All the same, I'd go back too them
