I don't, but have family members who live close by (on Charleston Lake) so I've been to Brockville many times. Nice town.

It's not known as the St Lawrence Riviera without a reason.

A friend of mine moved from Brockville to Nice and that was his catch phrase to describe his move.

Nice enough town 20 K approx...pleasant downtown. I end up there two or three times a year. They have a nice playhouse, pleasant waterfront and some nice century homes. North of the 401 are newer homes. The 1000 Islands Mall looks like its seen better times. A ten minute drive to the 'wonders' of northern New York. I prefer Brockville to Precott or Cornwall. House prices are probably less than Kingston or Ottawa.

Do you have a job opportunity there or can you work remotely and it ticks some boxes?

I'm in Ottawa and have been for over 20 years.

I'm in Kingston
Brockville is an hour or so away - To me it's "just a town" nothing outstanding easy access to Hwy 401 and the states ........ It has all the necessities of life, Tims, SDM, Canadian Tire, variety of housing but I've not seen too much for employment, unless you have something in mind

So with that and from a bit of googling that's hospital and health authority; schools, college and education departments; transit; IT; several large industrial manufacturers including 3M, Procter & Gamble, Shell; sports facilities; Federal and Provincial government centres, Library, Museum, Retail, Pharmacy, Doctors, clinics...

But not much in the way of employment. Who does all the doctoring, nursing, teaching, bus driving, production, event organising, customer/client facing and all the support IT/Admin involved?

My brother moved there. I visited a couple of times, once for some sort of summer festival. There's a pub, the Sir Isaac Brock, and a place that sells "Canadian Chinese" food. At the time it was a centre for cigarette smuggling, there were fast boats and guns on the river but that trade has rather died now. I think "redneck" about sums it up. Lots of people without teeth (this was pre-meth so it wouldn't be so obvious now all Ontario towns have lots of toothless people), complicated family trees involving few people but many combinations, lots of fat people, that sort of thing. No diversity. Like a Gruaniad portrait of some town in West Virginia or Pennsylvania. I would imagine that it's now one of those post-Oxy towns targeted by the fentanyl conglomerates. People there look down on those in Prescott, they think them all to be peadophiles due to some scandal in the past.

Some houses and flats in Brockville will have nice views of the river.

Local paper is

Brockville Recorder

Its nice enough- houses are not too bad- property taxes are average. Houses near river are mega bucks and with any waterfront properties mega property taxes. Jobs situation not great so don't come if you havent got one already lined up. Procter and Gamble are closing the factory in 2020 so big job losses.

im not hear to argue - just offering my option - let the OP decide .....
as I said - I live an hour from Brockville - it’s “just a town” nothingy special nothing great for employment - but if google says otherwise I’ll stand corrected.

Actually - no I won’t - it’s just a town and nothing special.

To each their own - one persons 'nothing special town' is another persons idea of the perfect place to live. I have family members that live at Charleston Lake, who have worked in Brockville for 30 plus years and love it, though with Proctor & Gamble closing their huge plant I expect employment may be a little harder to find, although there are currently 701 jobs in Brockville on Indeed alone.

If it's a place to retire to though, I would imagine it's ideal!

On the other hand, there's quite a redevelopment project with the hospital in the works that should partially offset that, with additional jobs on completion.

Thanks for all those replies.
Does anyone have any info about cycling - road cycling for preference?
Are there any cycling clubs in the Brockville area?
What’s the area like for cycling in general - road conditions, traffic etc?
Thanks
