Are the teeth in Canada different? No. Are the drug brand names different? Yes. Are the dosages different (mg-iu) Yes. Is this a big problem IMO? No. Would a one week recert course (after credentials have been checked out cover this problem? IMO Yes.
Will Biink's husband be certified in Canada? Yes eventually. And good luck to him when he is. It's a pain in the arse but just think of it as a sideform/process of the immigration process.
Do I think it's worse moving from the UK->Canada or Vice versa as a dentist? I don't know. As a nurse -> much the same hassle (based on experience and conversations). As a Doctor (based on conversations) much the same.
As an Environmental consultant (From my experience) -> difficult.
I hear what you're saying and agree with you. The problem is with local practical profession registrations (e.g. dental/medical/ and the bureaucracy that goes with it is that (IMO) fuddy duddies are in charge of the registration process that are out of touch with practical situations, skills and needs.
On the other hand there are patient safety issues that must be met and these orgs are only covering their arses. You can't blame them.
I don't know if you saw, (i think it was the 5th estate) (sort of panorama program) where a foreign doctor in Ontario was screwing up big time in a treatment of womens' problems (I can't remember the specifics, if someone can, then clarify).
Unfortunately, it only takes one disaster to affect the likes of Biiike's husband. Is it annoying for them? Yes. (sorry to be patronising Biiink). But at the end of the day does it make for a higher standard of care and patient safety? Yes.
All I'm saying is that IT IS A LOAD OF SHITE but part of the process. It's their rules.
To the original question:
I've basically been accepted to both British and Canadian uni.'s
1. You haven't mentioned your UK options
2. What is your other Canadian option?
My advice. Go for it. Never been there but I can imagine it to be a cracking place to be a student.

Argh, how silly of me! To the person that's from Victoria, tell me moreee!
I would love to know all about Victoria, especially from someone that knows it first hand! Here's my list of questions:
What's the life like out there?
Are there nice places to visit?
Was the campus as beautiful as it looked on the brochure?
Is it easy to access Vancouver from Victoria?
That's all for now!
Feel free to randomly rant on about how great Victoria is!

It depends what you mean by 'the life'? To me, it's close to ideal, not perfect, but pretty damn nice but my ideal might be your hell.
I like being out in the woods (hiking, camping) and outdoor recreation (skiing, beachcombing, dragon boat racing, etc). I like being in a green environment (as in vegetation and in people's general attitudes). I like that indigenous cultures get at least an ounce of recognition here (however it's usually shallow and profit motivated but I digress). I like good coffee, good food and good beer and wine. I like independent movies theatres and second-hand book shops. I like friendliness between complete strangers. I like that all the tourism is basically confined to an easily avoidable area. I like that a car isn't essential to living there. I like the 'free' access to Traditional Chinese Medicine. I like the laaaaaidback and informal attitude of most of the people there. I like that when I bought and moved into my house there, neighbours came around to introduce themselves and offered assistance and beer! I could go on.
I'm not into fashion, nightlife/clubbing or shopping - so if those are lacking in Victoria, I wouldn't notice.
Are there nice places to visit?
In Victoria, there are a lot of places to visit. Beyond Victoria, there's Long Beach (Tofino), Seattle's just a ferry ride away, the Gulf Islands (Canadian) and the San Juan Islands (American) are really nice and peaceful places (unless they're being invaded by a few American tour buses at once), there's Vancouver... It depends on what your interests are; you can go to big city places or go get lost in the woods.
Was the campus as beautiful as it looked on the brochure?
Yes. It smells nice too.
The library totally sucked but then the libraries at the universities I've been to in the UK sucked too so maybe that's just universities, fullstop.
I know nothing about the business faculty, so can't help you there.
I'm not sure what else to say

Well, I'm in my final year at 6th form, and I've basically been accepted to both British and Canadian uni.'s. However, I'm starting to doubt whether Canada would be a nice place to stay for thr duration of my degree. I will be living on Victoria Island, but have only ever seen pictures of the place.
Anyone who could reassure me, or enlighten me, please help!
Thanks in advance,

What do you base that on? Please elaborate! I'm interested.
You claim to have studied/worked at TWO universities yet you feel free to make a sweeping statement ("In the main").
Are you comparing your current job at your UK university with your times studying/working at your Canadian one and making a sweeping generalisation anout students attitudes based on that?
One question: If the standard is so much lower in the UK ones then why don't you set new standards?

I would go for it if I was you. I visited Canada for the first time as part of my degree but i was a mature student and had responsibilities therefore HAD to come home. I only wished i had discovered it when i was younger. Go for it, you can always come home .............or stay..... but whatever you do, at least you will have had the experience to live in another country. Life's short.
