Really basic question this - has anyone else taken cats into Canada? We're landing in Montreal on Friday next week, Ladyhaye (agent recomended by Zoom airlines) is shipping the two cats over for us, is there any advice you can pass on? If someone can even tell us what happens at Montreal I'd be grateful. I guess I have to go to the cargo area - can anyone give us easy directions to get to where I collect them, from arrivals? These two are going to be mighty pee'd off with us by the time they get there so want it to be as quick as possible... especially as they still have two hours in the car to Ottawa...

I don't know about Zoom but I do know that cats should not fly El Al. A cat escaped from the cargo hold on an El Al flight into Toronto and had to live on mice and whatnot for a couple of months while teams of people searched hangers and runways for it.

I flew into Toronto with my cat and dogs - I guess it is the same set-up regardless of where you fly into. If you are flying with the cats then you collect them from the baggage hall and if they are flying unaccompanied then you collect them from Cargo.

When we flew in, my animals were already in the Baggage Hall waiting for us, we took them through Customs, vet signed them into Canada and out the door we went. Easy-peasy.

My two cats travelled cargo when I came over in January. They had to come over on a completely different flight with a completely different airline mg

Got to the cargo place and the way bill? said that Air Canada take no responsibility for death of livestock in transit :scared:

Fortunately both made the journey over in one piece, and it took about 2 hours to clear them through customs - vet inspection.

Both are happy and hale in Canada and fill their lives hatching plans to escape the house...

Sorry to be nosy, but how much does it cost to transport two cats over? We are also going to be flying our two into Toronto.

I brought 2 dogs and 1 cat and the total cost for all 3 including all the airport taxes was £660.

Our two are costing £550, this includes two nights at the cattery near Gatwick so they recover from the car journey from South Wales; the aircraft-approved cat box, and delivery from the cattery to Gatwick on the day of the flight. Checkout www.ladyhaye.co.uk - so far we're impressed by them. They can also arrange the DEFRA export certificates - but my vet is doing that for me.

Oh, and don't tell my significant other how much they cost - they're my cats, not hers! It was on condition that they come that I:
1 sell my motorbike
2 give up my job of 15 years
3 move to a country so cold in winter the atmosphere lies frozen to the ground

Yeh - OK, I know I'm going to enjoy it - and so will the cats!

thanks to you both for the info. It certainly gives me an idea of costs. If my cats dont go neither does my teenage daughter - tempting at times but we really would miss those cats!!
