Breaking the news...

After a few months of "will we, won't we", my partner and I have finally decided to go ahead and submit my PR application.
Her parents are coming over from Canada in a couple of weeks and to avoid the potential for them to let slip to my parents our plans before we've told them, we're going to arrange a night to tell them next week.
I can foresee my mum being a bit upset (especially as her brother's buggered off there as well!), so any tips on how to broach the subject with minimal discomfort?

The only thing I would suggest is that you make sure that they don't find out from anyone else! It is probably going to be difficult for them, but it is likely to be a lot worse if they find out by accident. Good luck!

Friends have, in the main, taken the news less well. But I reminded them that they could come over for cheap holidays etc.
I still have a couple of close family members to tell, my brother and my uncle, but I don't live very near to them and I think its something that's better to do face to face rather than over the telephone.
Good luck, and remember that you can't live your life for other people...
