Hi, wondering what the most commonly used software packages would be for book-keepers? Quickbooks? Does Sage get a look-in?
Thanks!

Simply Accounting or Sage 50 as it is now known is the most favoured one. Quickbooks gets used, however as you can turn off the audit trail, it is not the most favored one as far as CRA are concerned, wheras in Simply the audit trail is permanently on. When it comes to support, service and value, from my experience Sage falls way short.

Simply Accounting was a Canadian product but is being subsumed into the international Sage brand. QuickBooks is American but you can buy a Canadian version. QuickBooks will have a Canadian cloud version very soon.
From a pure accounting point of view I prefer Simply Accounting because (as Aviator says above) you can't make transactions disappear as you can with QuickBooks. More Canadian bookkeepers use Simply Accounting than QuickBooks.
The big advantage that QuickBooks has is that a great deal of functional business software is written to use QuickBooks as the accounting engine.
Both offer amazing functionality for the price. 20 years ago I was paying £25,000 a year for software that could only do half of what either program can do for $500 a year.
