I can probably bet we've all done it, but what item of "essential" Canadian consumerism did you spend your imported pennies on after you landed?

A gorgeous custom built house in a trendy area close to downtown and a big enough investment portfolio not to have to work again.
Some gym equipment for the basement and a new Rocky Mountain mountain bike

By far our best buy has been our travel trailer (aka..caravan..but please don't call it that as I can not picture myself as a caravan type person..Oops my sincere apologise to all you UK caravaner's please do not take offence at that last statement I see it as my own personal hang up)
We have stayed at some fantastic locations both in Alberta and BC and as the kids get older we are able to travel further afield.
Hiking, swimming, boating etc during the day the around the campfire toasting marsh mallows in the evening, great family fun.

You have reminded me of our real first purchases..A 10yr old Dodge caravan (We had no kids but figured it would be good for moving stuff around etc plus it was cheap)..The Bargain Finder (Not only did we get a futon, TV and other essentials but we made some fab friends thro the purchases) and I am proud to still show off my Teak effect actually made of cardboard TV stand and bookshelf that we snared out the Dumpster at the back of our apartment building.. the only apartment block that would rent to us as we did not have jobs.
Ahh life was good then...but goodder now

Landed last August, bought Truck as we would be mving into the country early 2005, and lots of 'boy toys' e.g. Power tools etc.
Bought new house November, moved in March this year. This year all the other toys...Lawn tractor, snow blower, boat, ATV (used), more power tools...2nd car...the list goes on. Last big exspense was our wedding last weekend. :scared: Now the horns are pulled well and truely in. For the rest of this year 'Scrooge' will have nothing on me..

Oh yes we also got a large flat screened TV. However, that was a bit of a waste as there is nothing really to watch. However, DVD's do look good on it!
