Default blood test for dog

Hello all, we have a pet dog that will be going back to the UK mid 2009. He is from the UK, has a pet passport and is vaccinated against rabies up until 2010, but will need his blood tested (to avoid being quarantined). We believe Canada is on the approved non EU import list, however it does not appear to have an approved blood laboratory. Can anyone advise on the correct procedure.
Have sent email to Defra but they havn't got back to me yet.

Thanks already
Lemi

Hi there

My undertsnding is that as long as he has the passport ( which he would have needed blood tests for) as long as he has kept his vaccinations up to date you dont need another blood test. I looked at this recently as Im also taking my 2 dogs over to Canada.

Would be worth emailing DEFRA just to check but im pretty certain he doesnt need another one

Ditto this. If your dog was passported when he came to Canada and has kept his rabies vacs up to date, there is no need for a repeat blood test (but I would check with DEFRA - don't e-mail them, call them, they're very helpful and informative by phone). I didn't passport my dogs when I brought them here but I did get them ready to go back to the UK from here (as a precautionary measure) which does involve sending a blood sample to the States (not a cheap process! - I ask ya!). Further info available on request!
