Default A bit of a long shot but is there?

I need an insurance policy that covers me and the OH for the first couple of months of medical cover until MSP kicks in followed by a three week trip to Oz in November. So do I need two policy's one for the medical cover in Canada and a travel policy from Canada to cover Oz.. Or as per the title is there a log shot of getting a policy that covers both issues?

Plus who would you recommend for this insurance

Wouldn't a standard global travel policy (allowing 30 or 45 day stays) work quite well if you are trucking off to Oz in the middle of it?

A travel policy will not cover the 3 month waiting period for MSP. Travel policies end when you reach your country of domicile, which for the OP would be BC if moving here and not returning to the UK. Not worth chancing it to save a few bucks, have a claim then the insurer not pay out.

Pacific Blue Cross offer an interim policy I believe.

I took out a policy with Manulife for the 3-month wait period.

Are you travelling to New Zealand from Canada? If so, look at a travel policy with BCAA.

How much was the policy with Manulife?

We will be travelling to Denmark and then flying from there to Melbourne and then same route in reverse, so would BCAA be a good option?

The only thing with a travel policy is it would cover emergencies and not just a bog standard drip to the GP. I had considered that option but do not think it will work

Always happy to save money, but never at the risk of mine or my Oh's health. My thinking was more the hassle of sorting out more than one policy, but if thats what it takes then thats what it takes

Do you know which policy it is that Pacific offer, looking at their website it wasn't very obvious

Thanks Siouxie but that looks like it covers to Oz from the UK. However, when we travel we will be living in Canada and travelling from and back to Canada.

No, it's worldwide, covers Canada as well and also for people emigrating and needing cover whilst waiting for Provincial cover. Look at the emigration insurance policy and one way insurance policy.

You could change plans and move to Alberta - coverage upon landing here

I can't really remember how much the Manulife one was, sorry. But after doing lots of research it came out the cheapest. But...it was a bit more expensive than the one you can get whilst you're still in the UK - sorry can't remember the name of that (I'm still talking here about the policy that covers you for the first 3 months until MSP kicks in).

BCAA do travel insurance. You have to be living here in order to get it (so your trip needs to originate in Canada). Just worth noting that getting the policy online was much cheaper than going in person. I think he quoted me around $100 more excluding trip cancellation (which I got online).
