Why is it called a chip butty anyway? It's not as if there's just one chip.

The filling is the flavour, so a Meatball Sub is still singular when describing the filling, even though there is a plurality of said filling(s)

f you want to stress the amount if chips then it woukd be a "butty made with a filling of chips"
