Hi guys,
Im just looking for a few leads, regarding positions as a Biomedical Engineer in Canada. I haven't any particular location/area in mind.
Has anybody had any experience looking for this particular occupation, or know anyone who holds a position like this?
Kind Regards
Dom

Hello, Domenic, and welcome to the BE forum.
First read the BE Wiki article on Equivalency of Qualifications.
Next read the Wiki on Finding Job Opportunities. Your best friend on that page is the link to the Canadian Company Capabilities website. I went there and did a search for BIOMEDICAL.
From that search I found:
The best thing for you to do is to narrow down the list to about half a dozen companies that look as if they might be the best fit for you. Then pick up the phone and talk to them. Ask them what their needs are, what sorts of qualifications they need, who the other corporate players in their field are, names of people who work for those other companies, etc.
But, before you contact anyone directly, it would be a good idea for you to read all the Wiki articles in the series on Job Hunting in Canada.
I also recommend the following Wiki articles:
Hope that helps.

Ability Biomedical, Vancouver, BC
ID Biomedical Corporation, Vancouver -- Oops, elsewhere on the CCC website I saw that ID Biomedical had been bought by GlaxoSmithKline Inc.
Life Science News Brief dated November 15, 2007 - Articles mention several companies and provides links to their corporate websites.
The Assistive Devices Industry Office and the Accessible Procurement Toolkits -- Looks as if it's a gold mine of information, specially the page on Industry Sector, Research & Development, which lists numerous companies.
National Research Council - Website mentions several companies.

Wow,
Thanks, that's a lot of information to go at!! I will definitley check out the wiki's you have mentioned.
Im hoping to find a position within a hospital, as is my current position now.
I guess its a matter of getting hold of contacts form the biomedical engineering depts.
Is it possible for someone to point me towards some background information regarding Public Health System in Canada.
Kind Regards
Dom

On each ministry's website you'll see the regional health authorities into which that province is sub-divided. For example, here are the Regional Health Authorities for my home province of Alberta. My regional health authority is Calgary Health Region (CHR). The CHR website has a web page about jobs.
You may be interested to know that Medical Laboratory Technologists and Pathologists' Assistants (3211 on the National Occupational Classification) are listed amongst the Occupations Under Pressure in Alberta. To appreciate the significance of this, please read the Wiki article called Labour Shortages.
I don't know if 3211 matches your skill set. It seemed to be the occupation that was the closest fit with yours on the OUP list for Alberta. But it isn't a biomedical engineer as such. Here is the National Occupational Classification's description of a biomedical engineer (included amongst 2148 Other Professional Engineers).
