Hi
Greetings from Glasgow, again. Its very cloudy today, the same as always.
I would like to know which are the best areas to live in Toronto ?
And which areas to AVOID ?
Where can I find information about housing ?
Where can I find information about buying a house in Toronto ?
Are Scottish people allowed to buy house in TN ?

Do you mean living down in the city of Toronto or out in the suburbs?
Can't help you within the city as we have never lived down there. \People like either the west side, Mississauga, Oakville etc while others like the east side, Scarborough, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa.
It depends where you will be working if you are coming over as as PR.
Do a search on Yahoo Canada or Google for homes to buy. Somebody else may be able to give you some links.
TN means Tennessee. TO is the short for Toronto.

For good insight/information on moving to the Toronto area you should read this website.
http://www.watch-us-emigrate.com/
The GTA (Greater Toronto Area) covers a very large area, from Oshawa in the east to Mississauga in the west and Aurora in the north. It includes a goodly number of dormitory communities. As Pamela 1 stated, your location should be decided based to a degree on employment location. If you live in Whitby and work in Mississauga then you would have a hell of a commute.

Sorry, I meant to add that the question as to where to buy a house is really a matter of how much money you have to spend/income level you expect. While not definitive the general rule of thumb is that the further out from the city centre (downtown) you go the less expensive is the housing.
Scots are allowed to buy house in the GTO, much to the chagrin of the English, because we insist on playing that damn bagpipe music.

I got made redundant in my job and the job market in glasgow is really downhill cause of the economic downturn. Plus I finished my MBA as well, so I thought I head out and try to work in a international city. Everyone talks very positive about life in Canada, and the good Job opportunities etc so I guess that's the catch.
Toronto is like one of the biggest cities in Canada, and more job opportunities, cause I work in the investment banking sector, but the good cop not the bad one

Hockey ? lol. nahhh I dont understand hockey dont think I will ever be playing that. Am a Glasgow Rangers FC lad....._footie nerd.
No I dont have a Job yet and havent looked anywhere else. What you recomend pammy ? geez some opinons.
I have just started my journey to collate info about Canada and knowing that alot of the financial district is based in Toronto from an employment prospective I thought that is the Labor market most suitable to my skills and qualifications.
Perhaps Ottawa would also be a good option to look into as well. I have just started to focus on Toronto from a mere gut instinct
cheers

The hockey team? Not too sure we've had one for 42 years.
For crime rates go to http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Edmo...48716-sun.html which states Edmonton in top five most dangerous cities in Canada.
I've been to Edmonton and didn't observe much, if any, difference from Toronto. Both exhibit seediness in some respect.
And I have spoken to people from Edmonton. Your statement is meaningless.

Toronto is the financial centre of Canada. The stock market is here, all the major banks are headquartered here as are the major brokerage houses. With your qualifications the job opportunities are indeed increased. Of course, in the present market, jobs are more difficult to come by.

Canadians love to hate the city that does good and yes it is a city probably the one most like New York or London...but having been born and lived in London practically my whole life I can assure you the crime rate is not THAT bad. There's significantly less chance of being subject to a terrorist attack too.
Toronto ISN'T a little village and so you won't get that community feel from it. If that's what you want then fine but it always annoys me when people have bad things to say about a city that they've never lived in.

Might be worth checking a bit more into the possibilities of finding a job there - and not just finding a job, but finding an employer prepared to wait a few months for you to get over there, and who can prove they have advertised the job across Canada and been unable to find a Canadian willing to do the job. The latter is the trickiest bit at the mo given there are an awful lot of Canadians out of work! Getting a LMO is not as easy as it once was from what I understand.
As for Toronto, have you visited? I'm not a fan of it personally, that's just my opinion, but it does seem to be somewhere that you either love or hate, so it might be worth a reccie trip to check it out before you try and move there. You'll probably have to do that anyway to find a job (check out the Wiki - on blue bar at top of page - section on Job Hunting if you haven't already).
Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Just checking, but you are aware that Canada is also in a recession and an economic downturn?

Hi
The recession in most countries is mostly related to unskilled workers, though there were some skilled as well like myself.. I however worked in a smaller org which was bought out.
I am a finance professional even though the downturn is in the interim when I research the Canadian Labor market, from the websites huge plethora of Jobs are listed which are relevant to my skills and Qualifications. Plus when i check out the info from that NIC , the Job title that I seek is actually in acute shortage and the occupations are underpressure.
I guess the question would be to ask which particular sectors are affected in Canada ? plus I also believe negative media hype just exaggerates the situations as well.
Recession typically affects manufacturing, property, services sector of jobs at the bottom end of the organisational scale in my opinon. I think the downturn in Canada is nowhere near to the scale to that of the US and UK.
havent visited toronto, but I will definately do that before with or without a job offer. However I never realised that toronto has got very crimes rates like that of New York or London, oh

Any thoughts on what the cost of living is in Toronto compared to that of Edinburgh ????????????????///
